Some people eat with their hands. Some people eat with their eyes locked on yours.
A woman leans in toward the viewer, auburn hair falling across one eye, dark lips glossed with sauce. One finger rests at her mouth while the other hand, nails long and sticky with glaze, reaches back toward a heap of wings painted in thick, wet strokes of rust, amber, and burnt orange. A beaded necklace and a ring catch what little light there is.
The face is modeled with Old Master restraint: warm ivory, deep shadow, and a steady, unreadable gaze. The food and fingers are the opposite, built from loaded, glossy paint that looks as sticky as the real thing. The result is a portrait that is elegant, messy, and a little dangerous.
This is the third painting in the Indulgence series, following Quiet Indulgence (sold) and Wicked Indulgence.
